Black Mulberry (Morus nigra) is one of our most popular trees, often selling out early in the season. It is both an ornamental tree and a fruit tree. The Black Mulberry is a well-known tree, made so by the song ''Here we go round the mulberry bush, the mulberry bush, the mulberry bush, here we go round the mulberry bush, so early in the morning ...''
Brought to Britain by the Romans, this is a medium sized tree. It has a gnarled, rugged trunk and most attractive, heart shaped leaves. The delicious, deep purple fruits, which resemble large loganberries have a variety of culinary uses. It has a domed, rounded habit, giving it a most architectual appeal. Very long-lived and not as slow growing as thought.
