The Broad-Leaved Silver Holly tree (Ilex aquifolium 'Argenta Marginata') carries masses of bright red berries in autumn to winter but it is its leaves that are a lustrous, spiny, silver-margined, dark green leaves colour that distinguishes this tree, these leaves being a purplish-pink colour when young. It is fairly pyramidal in form. This excellent, silver-margined holly makes a splendid, evergreen ornamental tree for a sunny, medium-sized garden. A good self-fertile fruiting female form making a splendid specimen tree, hedge or topiary. It is well-suited to urban or coastal sites as it copes well with pollution and salt-laden air.
