Magnolia Shortages
Without fail we sell out of Magnolia trees every year. So if you see a "delayed delivery" message in red in the product title then we are technically sold out. However, you can buy and reserve now for delivery in August which means you will receive pick of the crop from our Magnolia trees as the best trees are sent out first. It is a myth that Spring is the only time to plant trees, as ours are containerised so you can plant all year round.
For some unknown reason there has been a spike in Magnolia interest and it takes 2 years for us to grow the trees so there will be no immediate solution.
With large green leaves and yellow buds that open to creamy cup shaped flowers on bare branches in Spring, you can be sure this is going to be making a big statement in your garden around April to May time.
As with beauty in the eye of the beholder, smell is in the nose of the same. A popular fragrance compared to a fruity or melon scent hopefully by those who know what they are talking about and not a nose dyslexic gardening group.
Clay, loamy or sandy, this tree does not mind. It will not like getting its feet wet so make sure the soil has good drainage.
These are good low maintenance trees as most Magnolias are. Pick a good spot for it as they are like your grumpy grand parents and not keen on change. Circumstances that is, not lower denominations of currency.
You should be looking at a mature height of around 10m but this is weather and site specific.
The tree will be at least 2 years old when you receive it and will be between 1.25 and 2 metres tall in a 7 litre pot.
The tree is supplied with the rootball intact in compost which means you can plant these any time of the year. Great for the genocidal gardeners out there with fingers capable of sucking the life out of anything plant like as you only need to plant and water initially. Feeding and maintenance comes later but at least the tree has a fighting chance before then!
Message card included at no additional cost if required. Just add the information required on the card at checkout.
General Magnolia Information
Magnolias are generally a low maintenance tree that can tolerate a small amount of drought but not wet for too long so make sure the soil has good drainage. Does not require a great deal of pruning but removing dead, diseased and crossed over branches is a good idea. Pick a good spot and do not move them as they may rebel against it by hiding the remote control or not being as vigorous as before. In summary they don't like to be moved/transplanted.
I know we mentioned this several times already but we are very aware that our sales technique is that good that customers are convinced to buy before finishing reading our blurb and do not miss the blatantly obvious and then complain their Magnolia died when they planted it in the swimming pool.
All ornamental trees (not vines) are topped at 1.3 metres to encourage a natural ornamental tree shape with obvious exceptions e.g. patio sizes. This means that your tree was pruned during the growing process and then allowed to grow to the size it is now supplied at.
