Sunset (Malus domestica 'Sunset'), introduced in 1918, is similar to Cox's Orange Pippin, however, it has a major advantage in that it is more disease resistant and slightly earlier. The apples are identiable by their red stripes and orange flush over gold. Sunset apples have an appealing, bitter, intense flavour. A heavy cropping apple, Sunset makes for an excellent garden apple variety.
