Magnolia Shortages
Without fail we sell out of Magnolia trees every year. So if you see a "delayed delivery" message in red in the product title then we are technically sold out. However, you can buy and reserve now for delivery in August which means you will receive pick of the crop from our Magnolia trees as the best trees are sent out first. It is a myth that Spring is the only time to plant trees, as ours are containerised so you can plant all year round.
For some unknown reason there has been a spike in Magnolia interest and it takes 2 years for us to grow the trees so there will be no immediate solution.
Wilsonii (Magnolia 'Wilsonii), which originates in China, is a large, wide spreading magnolia variety. It has lance-shaped matt green leaves which are silky underneath. The pendant highly fragrant saucer-shaped white flowerssmelling like lilly of the valley. have crimson stamens. Similar to M. sinensis for its wonderful fragrance
Expect a height of up to 4 metres (13 foot) after 10 years and up to 10m tall when mature. The flowers hang down so a very pleasing view when looking up.
This tree is supplied at a height of 1.25m to 1.75m in a 7 litre container for year round planting and easier to plant than bare root for those that are not blessed with the "fingers of life" that happen to have a nice shade of green.
The pointed leaves are around 6-16 cm long and 3-7 cm broad with the flowers being up to 12cm in diameter.
This tree will be ok in most garden conditions but it prefers afternoon shade for best results. As for soil types, it seems to be a little like a teenager home from school in that it is not fussy what it will eat. In simple terms, most soils will be fine.

General Magnolia Information
Magnolias are generally a low maintenance tree that can tolerate a small amount of drought but not wet for too long so make sure the soil has good drainage. Does not require a great deal of pruning but removing dead, diseased and crossed over branches is a good idea. Pick a good spot and do not move them as they may rebel against it by hiding the remote control or not being as vigorous as before. In summary they don't like to be moved/transplanted.
I know we mentioned this several times already but we are very aware that our sales technique is that good that customers are convinced to buy before finishing reading our blurb and do not miss the blatantly obvious and then complain their Magnolia died when they planted it in the swimming pool.
All ornamental trees (not vines) are topped at 1.3 metres to encourage a natural ornamental tree shape with obvious exceptions e.g. patio sizes. This means that your tree was pruned during the growing process and then allowed to grow to the size it is now supplied at.
