It has been claimed that Bramley's Seedling (Malus domestica 'Bramley's Seedling') is the finest cooking apple in the world!  Believe that as you may or may not, its apples are a distinctive green to greenish-yellow colour with a lovely strong acid taste.  A strong growing apple, so best on a dwarf rootstock such as M27.  This apple first appeared in Nottingham in the 19th Century.

Month of Picking: September

Type of Apple: Cooking

Self-fertile/Not self-fertile: This apple is not self-fertile and requires another apple to act as a pollination partner.

This apple is in flowering period is C3.

How to chose a suitable pollination partner.  This apple is a triploid variety which means two other apples will be required to act as pollination partners:

To make it easy to match this apple with a suitable pollination partner we have used a series of codes, which are C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5 and relate to flowering periods.  Every apple variety we sell will have one of these codes.

The code we have given this apple tree means that you need to find another apple with the same code or one less or one more, so for example if the apple is code C2, then another apple variety with code C2 or C4 would be necessary to act as a reliable pollination partner.

This variety of apple tree is supplied in a 12 litre container, which means that the tree can be planted any time of the year and with better results than either bare-root or rootballed trees.

Choosing the type of tree and rootstock:

Dwarf Rootstock M27 (Patio Type Bush), supplied at a height of 1.0 metres and the tree will reach an approximate height of 1.8 metres

Dwarf Rootstock M9 (Cordon Type), supplied at a height of between 1.25 and 1.50 metres and the tree will reach an approximate height of 2.6 metres

Semi-Dwarf Rootstock M26 (Bush), supplied at a height of between 1.25 metres and 1.50 metres and the tree will reach an approximate height of 3.0 metres

Semi-Vigorous Rootstock MM106 (Bush), supplied at a height of between 1.25 and 1.50 metres and the tree will reach an approximate height of 3.6 metres

Please tell us at checkout when ordering this apple which tree type and rootstock you require.

Trouble Choosing
Cannot decide which fruit tree? Take a look at our TOP SELLING FRUIT TREES

Wet Ground
If you have wet conditions then choose a PEAR TREE first, followed by APPLE TREES. They don't prefer it but will tolerate water, H2O or liquid better, depending which one you have most of!

General Fruit Tree Life Expectancy
Most fruit trees will give you AT LEAST 40 years of fruit. Pears can go to 70. Records of 200 year old trees exist but this is the exception, not the rule.

General Pollination Information
For more information on pollination please look at  POLLINATION EXPLAINED or choosing the CORRECT POLLINATION PARTNER
