Charles Ross (Malus domestica 'Charles Ross') is the result of crossing the apple varieties Peasgood's Nonsuch x Cox's Orange Pippin and was first introduced in Newbury in the 19th Century. The result is an easy to grow apple with a delightful orange-red flush. It is a sweet flavoured eating apple which also bakes well. A cherished garden apple. Especially good for northern areas.

How to chose a suitable pollination partner.
To make it easy to match this apple with a suitable pollination partner(s) we have used a series of codes, which are C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5 and relate to flowering periods. Every apple variety we sell will have one of these codes.
The code we have given this apple tree means that you need to find another apple with the same code or one less or one more, so for example if the apple is code C3, then another apple variety with code C2 or C4 would be necessary to act as a reliable pollination partner.
This variety of apple tree is supplied in a 12 litre container, which means that the tree can be planted any time of the year and with better results than either bare-root or rootballed trees.
Choosing the type of tree and rootstock:
Dwarf Rootstock M27 (Patio Type Bush), supplied at a height of 1.0 metres and the tree will reach an approximate height of 1.8 metres
Semi-Vigorous Rootstock MM106 (Bush), supplied at a height of between 1.25 and 1.50 metres and the tree will reach an approximate height of 3.6 metres
