Juglans Regis Walnut Broadview is a self fertile Walnut tree which means it will produce nuts without the need for a pollination partner or for those less gardening minded, just plant it and pick the nuts when you see them.

This species of Walnut is very hardy (a bit like the Rambo of Walnut trees but wont wear an 80's headband and stich up its own wounds). It is late into leaf so will be less affected by "normal" seasonal frost.

Under the right conditions, it can start cropping in it's third year.

Left to it's own devices it will probably invite other tree friends over while you are out socialising and also grow to 10m or 30ft (whichever comes soonest) witha spread of around 6m or 18 ft.

You can prune this tree to remain around the 4-5m or 12-15ft mark which makes picking the nuts much easier. Better to prune regularly and every year to keep the size down than all in one go. Should you have to heavy prune then save this task for the Walnut trees dormant season which is November to March.

Do not plant other trees or plants within 1 metre or 3 ft of the canopy or expected canopy as Walnut trees can release a chemical that inhibits plants growth.

Do not compost Walnut tree leaves or roots.

Trouble Choosing

General Fruit Tree Life Expectancy
Most fruit trees will give you AT LEAST 40 years of fruit. Pears can go to 70. Records of 200 year old trees exist but this is the exception, not the rule.
