An old-fashioned English plum variety, introduced in 1885, Mallard (Prunus domestica 'Mallard') is a reddish plum. The plums are a medium size, oval in shape, and are ready for picking in mid to late August. Mallard is a good quality plum. Not a self-fertile plum, therefore it needs a pollination partner. Month of Picking: Mid-August Type of Plum: Eating Self-fertile/Not self-fertile: This plum is partially self-fertile so in all probability another plum is required for pollination This plum is in flowering period is C2. For a suitable pollination partner, choose another plum from the flowering periods C1, C2 or C3 This variety of plum tree is supplied in a 12 litre container, which means that the tree can be planted any time of the year and with better results than either bare-root or rootballed trees. Your message can be engraved into an attractive copper label that stays with the tree. These will certainly last as long as the tree does and very useful to keep your sentiment alive every time the label is viewed. DRAWSTRING BAGS MAKE A DIFFERENCE (opens up in same window) will make your gift of a tree that little more special and what is more these drawstring bags can have a multitude of uses afterwards. Important - Plums/Gages and DamsonsWe advise the purchase and planting of all plums, gages and damsons before the end of September. There have been severe losses last season on container grown stock. It is thought that the cause is physiological and has worsened due to the changing climate conditions. It is therefore recommended to plant healthy new season stock in late August through to the end of September to establish before the winter to minimise losses. Trees-online cannot guarantee survival of any of these trees. Any planting is entirely at the customers own risk.
