Some information on grapevines:
There are perhaps some mis-conceptions about growing a grapevine? Perhaps they are considered as something of a luxury? Is it possible to grow them in a garden or greenhouse? Is it possible to produce wine?
In southern England and Wales it is possible to grow grapes outdoors, obviously, dependent on the situation, with a south-facing site preferable, alongside a sunny wall. Indoor grape varieties are more capable of being grown across the United Kingdom. We know of grapes being succesfully grown in a greenhouse in Aberdeenshire where there is a small-scale production of wine!
Cultivation:
Vine varieties which grow indoors are generally planted into the soil outside of a greenhouse and the stem trained to grow inside, this made through a hole in the wall. This type of cultivation is that most commonly chosen for vines which are grown in greenhouses with fllors of concrete. It is a pre-requisite to provide excellent ventilation for grapes grown under glass. It is important to provide increasing levels of ventilation as the grapes ripen, thus reducing humidity.
A reliable and excellent quality sweetwater black grape, Black Hamburg produces large bunches of appealing grapes.
