A Native to the Mediterranean and eastern Europe, rhododenron ponticum was introduced into Britain in the latter part of the 1800s. This variety of rhododendron was widely planted by the Victorians. This tree easestablishes especially on acid peaty ground such as bogland. They form impenetrable thickets and hence forms a a good screen. Its flowers are particularly attractive. This means that planting can be carried out at any time of the year, provided they are watered in periods of drought, compared to bare-root plants which can only be planted during the plants normal dormant period (November to March).
