An old-fashioned English plum variety, Rivers's Early Prolific (Prunus domestica Rivers's Early Prolific'), first introduced around 1820, and as the name implies, is a very good, heavy cropping early season plum. Distinguished by its small, bluish-purple plums, this plum is a good dessert variety when fully ripe. Partially self-fertile. Month of Picking: Early-August Type of Plum: Eating Self-fertile/Not self-fertile: This plum is partially self-fertile so there is a chance another plum is required for pollination, in which case choose from a flowering category C1, C2 or C3. This plum is in flowering period is C2. This variety of plum tree is supplied in a 12 litre container, which means that the tree can be planted any time of the year and with better results than either bare-root or rootballed trees. Important - Plums/Gages and DamsonsWe advise the purchase and planting of all plums, gages and damsons before the end of September. There have been severe losses last season on container grown stock. It is thought that the cause is physiological and has worsened due to the changing climate conditions. It is therefore recommended to plant healthy new season stock in late August through to the end of September to establish before the winter to minimise losses. Trees-online cannot guarantee survival of any of these trees. Any planting is entirely at the customers own risk.
