This Is Considered An Easy Apple Tree, For More Easy Apple Trees Click Easy Apples

This is because it is SELF FERTILE and can be planted by itself and still produce apples. This means you can pretty much plant these where ever you like. Usual exceptions apply such as submarine window box and active volcano orchards.

Scrumptious (Malus domestica 'Scrumptious') has become one of our top-selling eating apple varieties. The result of a selective apple breeding program, using apple varieties Starkspur Goldon Delicious x Discovery as parents.

Scrumptious is very popular for a variety of reasons. Named for the complexity of its flavours, it was specifically bred for UK garden conditions. As a mid-season apple variety, it is also well-suited to all areas of the United Kingdom so if you live in an area frequently in the news for extremes of weather, the Scrumptious Apple will be your best chance of getting a decent crop. Of course, if you live in an area always in the news for apple tree thefts, your expectations may not be met.

An added bonus is that Scrumptious is self-fertile, therefore, no need for another apple tree to act as a pollination partner. Important if space is limited. Apple tree experts have described this apple in many positive ways; fragrant and honeyed, liquorice and wine, a bunch of cherries, fresh, aromatic, soft and delicate, crisp and sweet, and so on. We are sure once you have sampled Scrumptious for your self you could add to this list!

Suitable for planting in the North of UK, High yielding, disease resistant, attracts wildlife, suitable for container growing and has won the RHS Award Of Garden Merit.

Month of Picking: September and will store until October, unless you have one of those Star Trek suspended animation things then obviously a bit longer.

Type of Apple: EatingSelf-fertile/Not self-fertile: This apple is self fertile, so there is no need for an additional apple tree to ensure pollination

This apple is in flowering period is C3 and will pollinate other apple trees in flowering periods C2,C3 and C4.

See What Our Cstomers Are Saying About Our Scrumptious Apple Tree

Dear Trees-Online, It isn't often that I contact a firm to congratulate them but felt I should do it on this occasion. The Scrumptious apple tree that was ordered for our Garden Club and delivered to my address arrived safe and sound, only a few days after ordering, beautifully packaged and delivered by a very pleasant young man who insisted on carrying it in for me! I was very impressed with the tree. It looks robust and healthy and I hope will be happy with our other trees in our new Community Orchard. I would be interested to know if it was grown in the UK or if not, where? Maybe you don't have that information. Many thanks for a great service on all counts! Kind regards Ann Magrath 1016.....editors note All our trees are grown in the UK.

Thankyou so much X, Both Apple trees were delivered in immaculate condition & the quality of these tress are fantastic. I got these as an alternative Easter gift for my little boy. He was over the moon and can't wait to see them grow. Highly recommend 5*+ I shall be back for more. Kindest regards Donna. 0416

Alan, The (Scrumptious Apple) trees arrived, beautifully packed, without any damage, and were even better specimens than I had expected – thank you! Kate 0913

Apple Tree Jargon Explained

MM106 Grows to a final height of around 3.6 metres. Usually delivered around 120-180cm for 2-3 year tree and usually bush form (check before buying if important)
MM106+ Grows to a final height of around 3.6 metres. Usually delivered around 180-240cm for 2-3 year tree.
M9 Grows to a final height of around 2.5 metres. Usually delivered around 120-180cm for 2-3 year tree.
M26 Grows to a final height of around 3.0 metres. Usually delivered around 120-180cm for 2-3 year tree and usually bush form.
M27 Grows to a final height of around 1.5 metres. Usually delivered around 120-180cm for 2-3 year tree and usually bush form.
CORDON Pruned to produce apples very quickly (1-3 years), favoured with commercial growers. More columnar than round shape. Less of a harvest compared to MM106.
BUSH Clear stem of 45cm before branches grow out.
HALF STANDARD Clear stem of 1 m. Conventional tree shape allowing easy grass mowing or companion planting.
MAIDEN 1-2 years old, no pruning or shaping. Blank slate for you to shape and train.
PATIO Shaped to produce compact bush proportional for pot size, ideal for container growing.
(12L), (3L) etc The size of the pot measured in litres.
SELF FERTILE Will produce fruit without another apple tree nearby.
C1,C2,C3,C4,C5 If your apple tree is NOT SELF FERTILE (they will be listed f they are) then you will need a second apple tree nearby of a similar number i.e. the same or one above or one below. So an apple tree from a C3 requires a C2, C3 or C4 planted close by for it to produce fruit. Triploids are an exception, see below.
Bare Root Available from November to March only. Comes with no pot or dirt around roots and is cheaper than potted options. Orders purchased outside this time will be held for delayed delivery until the next season starts.
TRIPLOID You have a selfish tree. It will be pollinated by other trees but the pollen it has to offer is useless. See TRIPLOID POLLINATION for more information.

Apple Tree Ages and heights

All our apple trees have been pruned and shaped to get the best results and are inspected by an apple tree expert before being sent to you. Maiden apple trees are 1-2 years old, the rest are 2-3 years old. Heights vary depending on root stock however 1.5 to 2+ metres tall is an average apple tree height at delivery.

TOP SELLING FRUIT TREES, Wet ground issues then choose a PEAR TREE first, followed by APPLE TREES. For more information on pollination please look at  POLLINATION EXPLAINED or choosing the CORRECT POLLINATION PARTNER

Fruit Tree Life Expectancy
Most fruit trees will give you AT LEAST 40 years of fruit. Pears can go to 70. Records of 200 year old trees exist but this is the exception, not the rule.

Do I Need To Stake My Bare Root Fruit Tree?
9 out of 10 times the answer will be no, especially if under 200cm tall. However our article on Tree Staking should help guide you.

Climate Change
Climate Change has increased aesthetic foliage issues such as Powdery Mildew, Shothole, Rust, frost damage etc These are not terminal issues and will usually last a season or less. All trees are inspected before being sent out to ensure they are fundamentally healthy and will bounce back.

Planting In The Corner Of A Garden
Air and light is reduced in this location which could promote fungus and bacterial issues. If the corner is of the house and a fence then you also have leeching issues to contend with from cement and wood preservatives. Also when it rains, that area would experience higher water levels so we advise against it unless the plant is very hardy.

Fruit Tree Heights
Taller does not mean more value for money. A 1 year old fruit tree can easily be substantially higher than a 2 year old, this is because they are hard pruned at 1 year old to create the desired shape. Some trees have over 100cm of height removed. They can then have another pruning at 2 years old to increase fruit growing real estate. Most fruit trees will benefit from having a third to half of the seasons new growth cut back in the Autumn to prevent long whippy branches which break easily. Age and pruning completed determine real value.
