*Heights are given as a very rough guideline and can have considerable variation based on species and supplier (each nursery experiences different growing conditions) It may even have been pruned before being sent out so we can only guarantee girth. Trees over 5.5m may include a delivery surcharge based on location and species but we will confirm with you before progressing the order.

Once a mature tree is around 200cm/4 years old then girth is the best measure of value for money. For every girth measurement increment e.g. 6-8cm to 8-10cm, the canopy will be wider, stronger, bushier and the root system larger as it has experienced 12-18 months growth. You can notice larger root systems with potted versions because the pot size increases with maturity. As a very general rule, each one cm girth measurement represents around 30cm growth but this doesn't apply to slow-growing trees.

Rootball or (RB) means it will not come in a pot but will have the roots wrapped which you need to remove before planting and are available for delivery only between November and March. If listed in a pot, they are available to purchase and plant all year round.

Multistem means several stems starting very low to the ground. Comparing these with the same age Standard and Half Standard, these are typically shorter as growing several stems takes more effort than one stem and the girth measuring system does not apply.

Standard and Half Standard means lollipop shape. Industry definitions (which are not universal) mean Half Standard have around 80-150cm clear stem and Standard 180cm or more. Half Standards will usually be quite smaller than their standard equivalent girth size.

Feathered means it has an obvious single stem with side branching for most of it.

Mature Prunus Kiku-shadare-zakura/sakura
Kiku-shadare-zakura Weeping Cherry is our most popular weeping cherry tree. Instantly identifiable by its drooping branches and emailed invoice which clearly shows what you purchased. Come Spring, Prunus Kiku-shadare-zakura is covered with very pretty deep pink, fully double flowers. If you still have flowers into the Summer then someone is messing you around so check for superglue.

Its spring foliage is bronze-green, turning a glossy green as the season progresses. If you find the foliage is turning darker the longer you look at it, this is most likely due to sunset or you are falling asleep.

Perfectly suited for small gardens as its 10-year expected height is 2.5m. This marks the end of the juvenile period which means it could stop there or go on to grow more. Some get to 4m. If you let it grow naturally, the width will be similar to height. Being a small tree it is unlikely to need support so no need to book a tree therapist or buy a stake and tie kit.

Cheals Weeping cherry is very similar to this tree but is a little more upright and more blossom.

Message card included at no additional cost if required. Just add the information required on the card at checkout.

Planting Prunus Kiku-shadare-zakura
For best results plant in a sunny sheltered spot with fertile soil. If you have purchased a 2-3 year plant, cutting the leader back by a few cm will encourage more growth to develop. It will tolerate most soils to include chalk and clay.

Fully hardy down to minus 20 degrees centigrade so suitable for all of UK locations unless continental drift speeds up and we start floating North.

Pruning Mature Prunus Kiku-shadare-zakura/sakura
As a general rule, these trees prefer to be left alone. This is in the pruning sense, if you are happy to display a cheek bark imprint then you can cuddle as much as you like.

See What Our Customers Are Saying About Our Kiku-shadare-zakura
Hi, Just wanted to say a massive thank you for my *mature Prunus Kiku-Shadare-Zakura tree delivery today, it's lovely 😊, Kind regards Katy Site Owner 0422

Hi, I haven't heard from you but today I received my (Cheals Weeping Cherry) tree. It's stunning, couldn't be any happier! Many thanks, Simona 0718

Hi Senior Dogsbody, Sorry it has been so long in letting you know that I have arrived. I have been settling in and getting to know my new friends, so have had very little time to get in touch. My new owners are very pleased with me, and have now even mowed the grass at my feet to show me off better since these photos were taken. I love it here in sunny Devon, and have heard that my new owners plan even more new friends for me, so I am very excited! They look after me really well, and I get lots of water and mulch. By the way, I am not Trev the tree.....I am Cherry the Tree! Love Cherry 0618 Editors note...this tree testimonial about our Cheals Weeping Cherry tree is in response to our "unusual" email asking for one. If you viewed the email we sent, the customer looks sane and we do not, not the other way round when you view this half of the conversation.

Hello Alan, one tree arrived on Wednesday and the other two on Thursday, which was great as I was on site and planted them on Friday morning. All three looked like lovely specimens, well grown and undamaged by transit. I couldn't have picked better myself. The couriers were helpful and careful so I'd give you an 8 or 9 out of 10! (like to leave room for improvement) As we will be working at this garden again in the spring I'll be able to check they're growing well. Thank you for a great service. Happy for you to use this as a testimonial. Best wishes Yvonne Say 0114

Ornamental Tree Roots In The Shade e.g. Behind A Fence
It is more important that that foliage (posh term for leaves) receives the sunlight than the roots. So if the canopy of your ornamental tree can sunbathe but the bottom of your tree thinks there has been a nuclear winter then that is ok. You might want to ensure you have good drainage as water and no sun is the start of algae and other such issues.

Early Autumn Leaf Fall
Heat stress, being potted, lack of water, being boxed up for a few days etc can cause early Autumn leaf fall. Once planted, normal service will resume next season.

Do I Need To Stake My Ornamental Tree?
9 out of 10 times the answer will be no, especially if under 200cm tall. However our article on Tree Staking should help guide you.

Climate Change
Climate Change has increased aesthetic foliage issues such as Powdery Mildew, Shothole, Rust, frost damage etc These are not terminal issues and will usually last a season or less. All trees are inspected before being sent out to ensure they are fundamentally healthy and will bounce back.

Planting In The Corner Of A Garden
Air and light is reduced in this location which could promote fungus and bacterial issues. If the corner is of the house and a fence then you also have leeching issues to contend with from cement and wood preservatives. Also when it rains, that area would experience higher water levels so we advise against it unless the plant is very hardy.

Mature Tree Warranty
Once a tree is over 3 years old, the failure rate is considerably less and our Tree Warranty does not cover it at 100%. Please check details.

Fruit On Ornamental Cherry Trees
If any fruits are formed, they will be small, inedible and barely noticeable.
