Concorde Pear Tree

Pyrus Communis Concorde Pear is a well-known pear that is sweet and juicy to eat and excellent for general kitchen use. Being self-fertile, you only require one pear tree to be guaranteed your very own pear crop. We have found crops to be very heavy and it is also compact in form.

Month of Picking: September

Type of Pear: Eating

Self-fertile/Not self-fertile: This pear is self-fertile so there is no other pear is required for pollination

This pear is in the flowering period of C4.

This pear will act as a suitable pollination partner for pears in the flowering periods C3, C4 and C5.

What our customers are saying about our Concorde Pear Tree

Thank you for my beautiful Concorde pear tree ! I’m delighted with it and it now has pride of place in what should be a sunny courtyard. I’m now excited to get the fig tree - can you please let me have an update on when I’m likely to receive this ? Regards Penny 1020

Evening Alan, So sorry I haven't been in touch to say: Thank you ever so much for the Fruit trees. They arrived safe and sound. Were planted the next day and look great. Thanks also for the advice and guidance! Genuinely appreciated. We'll be in touch with our next project soon :)Best wishes, Nicki 0117
Dear Sir,I am writing to thank you for delivering my pear trees in perfect condition. By using your firm the whole process from first looking at your website to final delivery was so easy and efficient.Your website was a joy to use, providing lots of information about each individual tree. A kind gentleman phoned me to apologise for not having a specific pot grown pear tree and asked if it would be ok to send a bare rooted one. The two trees were delivered within a week, left in the place I had specified. They are fantastic trees and look very healthy. I can't wait to sample the pears later in the year.Thank you trees online; without you it would have been much harder tracking down the pear trees I was looking for. I will definitely be online soon to order more trees. Best wishes for your continued success. Sue Davies

Fruit Tree Life Expectancy
Most fruit trees will give you AT LEAST 40 years of fruit. Pears can go to 70. Records of 200 year old trees exist but this is the exception, not the rule.

Do I Need To Stake My Bare Root Fruit Tree?
9 out of 10 times the answer will be no, especially if under 200cm tall. However our article on Tree Staking should help guide you.

Climate Change
Climate Change has increased aesthetic foliage issues such as Powdery Mildew, Shothole, Rust, frost damage etc These are not terminal issues and will usually last a season or less. All trees are inspected before being sent out to ensure they are fundamentally healthy and will bounce back.

Planting In The Corner Of A Garden
Air and light is reduced in this location which could promote fungus and bacterial issues. If the corner is of the house and a fence then you also have leeching issues to contend with from cement and wood preservatives. Also when it rains, that area would experience higher water levels so we advise against it unless the plant is very hardy.

Fruit Tree Heights
Taller does not mean more value for money. A 1 year old fruit tree can easily be substantially higher than a 2 year old, this is because they are hard pruned at 1 year old to create the desired shape. Some trees have over 100cm of height removed. They can then have another pruning at 2 years old to increase fruit growing real estate. Most fruit trees will benefit from having a third to half of the seasons new growth cut back in the Autumn to prevent long whippy branches which break easily. Age and pruning completed determine real value.

Choosing the type of Pear tree rootstock:

Those in the horticultural business love their technical lingo, so here is something to help you decipher Gobbeldy Gook from the Green Fingered Brigade. Each rootstock description is made up of several terms from one or more of the following:

Generic : A standard or new rootstock growing 3-4m on average. 5-9L pot, 2-3 years old.
Cordon            :  Columnar shape and short branches. Ideal for space saving and quick fruiting (possibly first year)
Quince C         :  Will reach approx. 2.5 metres. Fruits quicker than Quince A
Quince Eline Almost identical to Quince C but but has superior cold hardiness.
Quince A         :  Will reach approx. 3.5 metres. Fruits quicker than Kirchensellar and is supplied at 120-180cm tall.
Quince A + Will reach approx. 3.5 metres but is supplied at 180-240cm tall.
Kirchensaller:  Will reach approx. 6.0+ metres.
Half Standard: Trunk clear of branches for around 1 metre and is traditional tree shaped. Good for gardens e.g. easy mowing and companion planting underneath.
Straight Lead: Much more of a clear trunk than a Half Standard, usually around 2.0 + metres.
Bush            : Pruned so that branches start around 45cm from the ground.
Maiden            : 1-2 years old and unpruned, ideal for shaping into Fan, Espalier etc
