Pollination Partners

Choosing the correct pollination partner

Introduction:

This trees-online information sheet is still under construction.  Its aim is to act as a guide to helping you choose the correct pollination partner when you buy a fruit tree that is not self-fertile from https://www.trees-online.co.uk/ Eventually this guide will include information on pollination partners for our complete range of fruit trees and links to the individual fruit varieties.  We thought by providing you with this information now it may be of benefit.

Buying a fruit tree can be a challenge.  We have produced this tree guide to try and help you identify a suitable pollination partner(s).
Whilst some fruit trees are self-fertile and do not require a another fruit tree to act as a pollination partner, many fruit trees are not self-fertile so require another fruit tree to act as a pollination partner.  In the case of Bramley's apple trees, which are a triploid variety, two pollination partners are required.

In some cases fruit trees are partially self-fertile.  Pollen can travel considerable distances, up to many miles, this meaning that if you live in an urban area with a great number of gardens close there is a good chance that pollen will be naturally available.  There is never any guarantee!
We have grouped most of our fruit trees in flowering periods.  We have avoided using times for flowering as regional differences and season will make this confusing.  Rather, we have created a number of codes, C1 to C5.

How to use these codes:

To make it easy to match this apple tree with a suitable pollination partner we have used a series of codes, which are C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5 and relate to flowering periods.  Every apple variety we sell will have one of these codes.
The code we have given this apple tree means that you need to find another apple with the same code or one less or one more, so for example, if the apple is code C4, then another apple variety with code C4, would be fine.  Equally,  an apple with code C3 or C5, would be suitable to act as a reliable pollination partner.  The reason for this is that there is always an overlap of flowering periods between adjacent groups.

Where the apple variety is in stock, please click on the link and this will take you straight to the variety on our website.  Those apple varieties without a link may be available later in the season.  Email us at info@trees-online.co.uk for availability.
