Month of Picking: August

Type of Pear: Eating

Self-fertile/Not self-fertile: This pear is not self-fertile so it is necessary to have another pear for pollination

This pear is in flowering period is C3.

How to chose a suitable pollination partner:

To make it easy to match this pear with a suitable pollination partner we have used a series of codes, which are C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5 and relate to flowering periods.  Every pear variety we sell will have one of these codes.

The code we have given this pear tree means that you need to find another pear with the same code or one less or one more, so for example, if the pear is code C3, then another pear variety with code C2 or C4 would be suitable to act as a reliable pollination partner.

This variety of pear tree is supplied in a 12 litre container, which means that the tree can be planted any time of the year and with better results than either bare-root or rootballed trees.

Fruit Tree Life Expectancy
Most fruit trees will give you AT LEAST 40 years of fruit. Pears can go to 70. Records of 200 year old trees exist but this is the exception, not the rule.

Choosing the type of Pear tree rootstock:

Quince C (Cordon), Mostly just the trunk with much smaller/shorter side branches for space saving and will reach approximately 2.6 metres. Considered Dwarf Rootstock and should fruit in the first year.
Quince C. Normal bush shape, will reach height of approx. 2.6 metres. Considered Dwarf Rootstock and may take longer to fruit.
Quince A. Trunk clear of branches for roughly 45cm, more bush shape, produces more flowers in the Spring will reach approx. 3.6 metres
Quince A (Half Standard). Trunk clear of branches for around 1 metre and is traditional tree shaped. Good for gardens e.g. easy mowing and companion planting underneath. Will reach approximately 3.6 metres
