First appearing in New Zealand in 1950, Braeburn (Malus domestica 'Braeburn') is an apple with a deliicious crisp, firm, aromatic taste.  It is an excellent all-rounder, however, it needs a good climate to thrive.  Interestingly, a number of highly coloured forms have been selected for commercial growers such as ‘Hillwell', ‘Loch Buie' and ‘Helena' - they all taste the same!

We recommend that Braeburn is planted in a sheltered, sunny position.

Month of Picking: OctoberType of Apple: Eating

Self-fertile/Not self-fertile: This apple is not self-fertile and requires another apple to act as a pollination partner.

This apple is in flowering period is C4.

How to chose a suitable pollination partner:

To make it easy to match this apple with a suitable pollination partner we have used a series of codes, which are C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5 and relate to flowering periods.  Every apple variety we sell will have one of these codes.

The code we have given this apple tree means that you need to find another apple with the same code or one less or one more, so for example if the apple is code C4, then another apple variety with code C3 or C5 would be necessary to act as a reliable pollination partner.

This variety of apple tree is supplied in a 12 litre container, which means that the tree can be planted any time of the year and with better results than either bare-root or rootballed trees.

Choosing the type of tree and rootstock:

Braeburn Apple Tree dwarf Rootstock M27 (Patio Type Bush), the tree will reach an approximate height of 1.8 metres
Braeburn Apple Tree M26 Bush shape will grow to around 3 metres at maturity and is more bush than conventional tree shaped.
Braeburn Apple Tree MM106 Bush shape. Will grow to around 3.6 metres at maturity and is more bush shaped than conventional tree shaped for easier picking.

Wet Ground
If you have wet conditions then choose a PEAR TREE first, followed by APPLE TREES. They don't prefer it but will tolerate water, H2O or liquid better, depending which one you have most of!

General Fruit Tree Life Expectancy
Most fruit trees will give you AT LEAST 40 years of fruit. Pears can go to 70. Records of 200 year old trees exist but this is the exception, not the rule.
