Prunus Snow Showers Options Explained

90cm:
11.5L pot. Short clear stem. The weeping canopy starts low, giving an umbrella shape that fits patios, courtyards, and large containers. 90cm is how much clear stem you have; you also have the foliage on top of that.
120:cm 12L pot. Mid-height clear stem. Balanced proportions for borders or small lawns. 120cm is how much clear stem you have; you also have the foliage on top of that.
150cm: 12L pot. Taller clear stem with a higher start point for the weeping branches. Suits open ground and lawns where you want more presence. 150cm is how much clear stem you have; you also have the foliage on top of that.

Prunus Snow Showers Weeping Cherry Tree

This tree is like a self-lubricating small person i.e. works well in small spaces and requires little to no maintenance. A 10-year size of around 3 x 3m on average.

  • Masses of single white blossom in March–April; a true “snowfall” effect. We take no responsibility for any skiers found in your canopy.
  • Compact, weeping habit that fits small gardens, patios, and large containers. Weeping habit as in shape, not what it does when a tear-jerker is playing on the TV.
  • Autumn colour in orange to red tones for extended season interest. Not as much season interest as Game of Thrones, but still worth watching.
  • Hardy (H6) in the UK; reliable performer across most regions.
  • Full sun position brings the best flowering; tolerates a wide soil range when well-drained.
  • Low maintenance: minimal pruning; responds well to light summer tidying, by that, we mean pruning and not picking up litter.
  • Pollinator-friendly: popular with bees when in blossom. The flying insect kind, not old ladies called Bee.
Planting Prunus Snow Showers Weeping Cherry Tree
  • Thrives in: Full sun; moist but well-drained soils; chalk, clay, loam, or sand; pH from acid to alkaline.
  • Okay in: Light/partial shade (with reduced flowering); exposed or sheltered gardens with ordinary drainage; large containers using a quality peat free mix plus grit.
  • Does not do well in: Waterlogged or heavy, poorly drained ground; deep shade; very small pots that dry out quickly; extreme, salt?laden coastal exposure.
Pruning Prunus Snow Showers Weeping Cherry Tree
  • When: Only if needed, in mid-summer. Avoid winter or early spring pruning to reduce silver leaf risk.
  • How: Remove dead, damaged, or crossing wood; lightly thin congested shoots to keep the natural weeping outline. Do not hard cut into old wood unless correcting the structure.
  • Container plants: Tip prune new extension growth after flowering if the canopy needs tightening; keep cuts light and clean.
Other Information About Prunus Snow Showers Weeping Cherry Tree

  • RHS status: Not listed with the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM) at tthe ime of writing.
  • Name origin: Descriptive of the heavy white blossom that resembles a shower of snow.
  • Care note: Mulch annually and water in dry spells, especially in containers, to maintain steady growth and flower set.

Ornamental Tree Roots In The Shade e.g. Behind A Fence
It is more important that that foliage (posh term for leaves) receives the sunlight than the roots. So if the canopy of your ornamental tree can sunbathe but the bottom of your tree thinks there has been a nuclear winter then that is ok. You might want to ensure you have good drainage as water and no sun is the start of algae and other such issues.

Early Autumn Leaf Fall
Heat stress, being potted, lack of water, being boxed up for a few days etc can cause early Autumn leaf fall. Once planted, normal service will resume next season.

Do I Need To Stake My Ornamental Tree?
9 out of 10 times the answer will be no, especially if under 200cm tall. However our article on Tree Staking should help guide you.

Climate Change
Climate Change has increased aesthetic foliage issues such as Powdery Mildew, Shothole, Rust, frost damage etc These are not terminal issues and will usually last a season or less. All trees are inspected before being sent out to ensure they are fundamentally healthy and will bounce back.

Planting In The Corner Of A Garden
Air and light is reduced in this location which could promote fungus and bacterial issues. If the corner is of the house and a fence then you also have leeching issues to contend with from cement and wood preservatives. Also when it rains, that area would experience higher water levels so we advise against it unless the plant is very hardy.

Mature Tree Warranty
Once a tree is over 3 years old, the failure rate is considerably less and our Tree Warranty does not cover it at 100%. Please check details.

Fruit On Ornamental Cherry Trees
