Acer October Glory
This tree is aptly named as its leaves turn an amazing red colour in September and through into October. In spring and summer its leaves are dark green and this tree carries small groups of red flowers during spring. A roundish-headed tree, October Glory will make for an attractive ornamental tree in a medium to large garden where its true beauty can be fully appreciated. Soil type is important in maximising its colour. We recommend a moist soil, either neutral pH to slightly acidic and a position in full sun is best.
The options usually available are:
90-150cm : These are usually 1-2 years old, 5-9L pot and will be 90-150cm tall depending on weather and time of year purchased.
150-175cm: These are usually 2-3 years old, 7-12L pot and will be 150-200cm tall depending on weather and time of year purchased.
180-240cm: These are usually 3-4 years old, 10-20L pot and will be 200-250cm tall depending on weather and time of year purchased.
Girth 12-14cm: Standard form. Very roughly 300-350cm tall.
Girth 14-16cm: Standard form. Very roughly 350-400cm tall.
Girth 20-25cm: Standard form. Very roughly 400-450cm tall.
Once a tree gets over 200cm tall, it is much more accurate to sell by girth size (the circumference of the trunk at 1m high) to indicate maturity. The more mature a tree is, the larger the root system, the thickness of the branches, size of the canopy etc. Taller does not always indicate more than. If no pot size is listed then they will be rootball and available November to March only.
If the options available are less than those explained above then we are out of stock of that item.

Ornamental Tree Roots In The Shade e.g. Behind A Fence
It is more important that that foliage (posh term for leaves) receives the sunlight than the roots. So if the canopy of your ornamental tree can sunbathe but the bottom of your tree thinks there has been a nuclear winter then that is ok. You might want to ensure you have good drainage as water and no sun is the start of algae and other such issues.
Early Autumn Leaf Fall
Heat stress, being potted, lack of water, being boxed up for a few days etc can cause early Autumn leaf fall. Once planted, normal service will resume next season.
Do I Need To Stake My Ornamental Tree?
9 out of 10 times the answer will be no, especially if under 200cm tall. However our article on Tree Staking should help guide you.
Climate Change has increased aesthetic foliage issues such as Powdery Mildew, Shothole, Rust, frost damage etc These are not terminal issues and will usually last a season or less. All trees are inspected before being sent out to ensure they are fundamentally healthy and will bounce back.
Planting In The Corner Of A Garden
Air and light is reduced in this location which could promote fungus and bacterial issues. If the corner is of the house and a fence then you also have leeching issues to contend with from cement and wood preservatives. Also when it rains, that area would experience higher water levels so we advise against it unless the plant is very hardy.
Mature Tree Warranty
Once a tree is over 3 years old, the failure rate is considerably less and our Tree Warranty does not cover it at 100%. Please check details.
